Audio: A Short Advice On The Importance Of The Scholars

In the name of Allah, the most gracious and most merciful. All praises are for Allah, the Lord of jinn and humans—and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the noblest of the Prophets and Messenger (Muhammad (ﷺ)), and whoever follows them in good until the day of resurrection. As to what proceeds.

So my word to you all on this particular night concerns the excellence of the scholars, their nobility, and their place in Islaam, and the peoples’ necessity to have them present. Without a doubt we are living in a time where trials, confusion, ignorance and oppression have increased—and where knowledge and justice are rare.

So for this reason Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah said:

“The root of every good is knowledge and justice and the root of every evil is ignorance and oppression”

Oh noble brothers [and sisters], may Allah bless you. Allah has raised the levels of the scholars. He said: Allah has raised those from amongst you who believe and those whom He has given knowledge in levels (Al Mujadila:11). So why is it that Allah has raised their levels with him? Because they have the responsibility of doing the jobs of the Prophets and Messengers.

[adguru zoneid=”1″] So for this reason the Prophet (ﷺ) said :

“The excellence of the scholar to the regular worshipper is like the excellence of the moon over the rest of the stars.”Collected by Abu Dawud & At Tirmidhi and other than them on the authority of Abi Darda

This means the excellence of the scholars over the rest of the worshippers and this is because they have taken the job of the Messengers and Prophets.

Now pay attention to what the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“And indeed the scholars are inheritors of the Prophets”

So what did the Prophets leave behind?Did they leave behind the Dunyaa? (meaning did they leave back money—or children—or houses?) No!

But the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“And the Prophets did not leave back a dinar or a dirham (money), but rather they left behind knowledge.”

So whoever took from it, then he took an abundant portion.

So my noble brothers (brothers in Saudi), without a doubt you are in a state of goodness so long as the scholars are living amongst you here in this blessed, peaceful country (Saudi Arabia).

So this advice is from your brothers, the poor (to Allah), the one in need of Allah, the American (When I say the American, I mean my language is not Arabic, it is English)—without a doubt, the trials are greater in American, Britain and Europe compared to this blessed safe country (Saudi Arabia). And that is because you will find here in almost every city from these cities a scholar from amongst the scholars.

Allah the Glorified said:

“Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know” (An Nahl: 43)

It is incumbent upon us to respect the scholars.

Allah the Glorified said:

“Are those who know equal to those who do not know” (Az Zumar:9)

There is going to come a time when there will be no scholar and no knowledge as the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Indeed Allah will not take away knowledge by removing it from the slaves, but rather he will remove knowledge by the death of the scholars until there will be no scholars left on the earth and the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders.”Collected by Imaam Muslim on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Umar

We ask Allah for help. This is something dangerous: the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders. They will be asked about religious affairs. So why would they be asked? Because the people are in need of knowledge, they are in need of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah and because they want an escape from the trials, confusion and ignorance. So these ignorant leaders would be asked about the religion and they would give Islamic verdicts without knowledge. This is something extremely dangerous oh noble brothers—a speech about Allah without knowledge.

So my noble brothers I don’t want to place difficulties on you with a long speech. I ask Allah to grant us beneficial knowledge and the ability to that which Allah loves and is pleased with. This is my speech, may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) , his family and his companions.
