Our Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan mentioned some essential reminders for the Daee (caller) at the beginning of the chapter on Zakah in the book Al Muntaqaa (Oct 10, 2105) pertaining to the narration of the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم which is collected by the six famous collectors of hadeeth as well as Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal on the authority of Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنه when he sent Muaadh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه to Yemen he said:
“Indeed you are going to the people of the book, therefore invite them to testify that there is no god worthy of being worshiped except Allah and that I am the messenger of Allah, if they obey you in this, then inform them that Allah has made incumbent upon them to perform the five compulsory prayers every day and night, if they were to obey you in this, then inform them that Allah has made incumbent upon them zakah, which is to be taken from the wealthy among them and distributed to the poor, if they were to obey you in this, then upon you is to be just with their wealth and fear the supplication of those oppressed because there is no screen between the supplication of the oppressed and Allah”.
The shaykh mentioned the following benefits and reminders:
A Daee (Caller) Must Understand The People
It is incumbent upon the Daee who’s going to a particular group or nation that he understands the people’s ways and the level of their religion. If he’s not going to muslims then he should try understanding something about their deen.
Calling The People In Stages
In this hadeeth the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم clearly exemplified in his statement to Muaadh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه that he was going to the people of book and it was upon him to invite the people in levels, the first thing he should begin with is tawheed then when they understand this, he should command them with the five compulsory prayers in a day and night, then when they understand the obligation of the prayer, he should command them with the zakah.
Fearing The Duaa Of The Oppressed
In this the hadeeth the statement of the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم “And fear the supplication of the oppressed” this is a clear warning against those people or callers who are extreme, this is because the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said “There is no screen between the supplication of the oppressed and Allah” meaning that Allah answers this supplication.
