Giving Legal Verdicts Without Being Asked

Imaam Maalik said:

“I didn’t like giving legal opinions until I inquired who was more knowledgeable than me in doing so, I asked Rabe’ah and Yahya Ibn Saeed and they would command me to answer.”

He further stated:

“It is not appropriate for a man to see himself befitting for anything until he inquires who is more knowledgeable than him in this affair.”
