Allah سبحانه و تعالى has informed us in his book that he has raised those from amongst us who believe and who he has given knowledge in levels. (58:11)
And He has also informed us that indeed those who fear Allah from his slaves are the people of knowledge. (35:28)
And Allah also says: Are they equal? —The ones who know from the ones who do not know? (39:9)
And Allah also commands us to ask the people of knowledge if it is that we do not know. (16:43)
So Shaykh Uthaymeen (Rahmatullah Alai), comments on the belief or creed and its influence on the Muslim nation.
So he said: “I say firstly, that it is incumbent that we understand the meaning of the correct belief (or the correct creed)”
So it is that which the heart believes in (from eemaan, from faith and certainty)
For that which it is incumbent for the heart to believe in is to:
- Believe in Allah
- Believe in His Angels
- Believe in His Books
- Believe in His Messengers
- Believe in the day of reckoning
- And to believe in His preordainment (the good and bad of it).
This is the correct belief, the correct creed, which Shaykh Al Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (Rahmatullah Alai) called it: “The belief of the saved sect” — “The aided group” until the establishment of the last hour.
The Prophet عليه سلم clarified this affair when he was questioned by Jibreel عليه سلم about eemaan:
The Messenger of Allah عليه سلم responded by saying that you believe in Allah, His Angels, His books, His messengers, the day of reckoning, and that you believe in His preordainment (the good and bad of it).
Shaykh Uthaymeen says to have belief in Allah comprises in believing that He Allah is the ever-living and self-sustaining (alhayyu alqayyoom). That he Allah is ever-living and He does not die. That He one who is responsible for planning all affairs and in whose hands is the authority over everything.
